Shoe material is a general term for all physical and chemical materials used in shoe making.
In the pre-human society, people walked barefoot. Shoes appeared during the Yangshao culture, but the only shoe material was animal skin. In the late primitive society, the materials of shoes were animal skins and fabrics. With the progress of society and the development of science and technology, nowadays there are many varieties of shoe materials, such as leather, cloth, rattan, armor, plastic, rubber and so on.
In the face of many shoe materials, they can be categorized according to different bases for the purpose of quality management, scientific research and rational application. According to the structure of shoes, it can be divided into fabric, lining material, sole material, sole combination material, auxiliary material, etc. According to the components of shoes, it can be divided into upper material, sole material, shoe main root head and heel, shoe rubber, shoe plate, shaping cloth, insole, sewing thread, and ornamental parts (e.g., tenon nails, along the strip, shoe flower, shoe chain, shoe lace, shoe buckle) and so on. According to their nature, they can be categorized into physical materials (the structure and nature will not change during the process of shoe-making) and chemical materials (the structure and nature will change during the process of shoe-making).
